Recovery coaching as a peer-to-peer recovery support services has grown exponentially over the past few years. Over 12,500 coaches have been trained using the CCAR Recovery Coach Academy alone. The issue of ethical considerations has been discussed in many circles yet formal training has been lacking. This two and ½ day training addresses this critical need. Using presentations, small group work, and role play many areas will be addressed including: defining the coaching service role and functions, coaching standards, issues of vulnerability, ethical decision making, performance enhancement and legal issues.

Recovery Coaching and Professionalism, a 12-hour curriculum, will prepare Recovery Coaches in 10 characteristics commonly associated with professionalism: accountability, appearance, etiquette, organizational skills, communication, ethics and boundaries, reliability, demeanor, maintaining poise, and competence.

The CCAR Recovery Coach Academy® is a 5-day intensive training academy focusing on producing individuals with the skills needed to guide, mentor and support anyone who would like to enter into or sustain long-term recovery from an addiction to alcohol or drugs. Provided in a retreat-like environment, the CCAR Recovery Coach Academy® prepares participants by helping them to actively listen, ask really good questions and discover and manage their own stuff.

REVIVE! is the Opioid Overdose and Naloxone Education (OONE) program for the Commonwealth of Virginia. REVIVE! provides training to professionals, stakeholders, and others on how to recognize and respond to an opioid overdose emergency with the administration of naloxone (Narcan®). REVIVE! is a collaborative effort led by the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Development Services (DBHDS) working alongside the Virginia Department of Health, the Virginia Department of Health Professions, recovery community organizations such as the McShin Foundation, OneCare of Southwest Virginia, the Substance Abuse and Addiction Recovery Alliance of Virginia (SAARA), and other stakeholders.
